The Grand National is a Mobius coaster: a wooden racing twin-track rollercoaster. It is quite strange because if you
start on the left track, you will arive back on the right side, so it is one continuous loop. This means the actual length
of the track is 6604ft. It is one of only 3 Mobius rollercoasters still operating in the world.
History
The Grand National opened in 1935 as Europe's first and only Mobius rollercoaster. In the 1930's, the Pleasure Beach
was run by Leonard Thompson, who brought some of the best wooden rollercoaster to the Pleasure Beach, including this one.
It is loved by people from all over the world. Some people say it is the best wooden rollercoaster in existance. It celebrates
its 70th birthday this year. But in 2004 this famous rollercoaster set on fire. Thankfully only 3 rides were damaged, and
the Garnd National's station was the only part of the rollercoaster affected. All three rides were repaired and are open now.
Hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again.
